Once upon a time, in the world of HVAC technologies, there existed a modern-day version of “Romeo and Juliet.” The founders of ER Flow spent years working for competing Air Handling Unit (AHU) manufacturing companies, building their expertise through innovation, engineering, and relentless competition in the HVAC industry.
For more than a decade, they competed in the same market, developing ventilation systems, energy-efficient technologies, and advanced airflow solutions for commercial and industrial applications. What began as professional rivalry eventually became the foundation for a unique engineering partnership.
Fate had a different plan in store for them. During one of Europe’s largest HVAC exhibitions in Milan, the future founders of ER Flow unexpectedly crossed paths. What started as a brief conversation quickly revealed a shared vision for the future of HVAC engineering — focused on efficiency, reliability, intelligent controls, and practical system performance.
Rather than continuing as competitors, they chose collaboration.
One of the co-founders, Artem Khabarov, is an HVAC engineer and product developer with more than 20 years of experience in ventilation technologies, ERV/HRV systems, and energy-efficient air handling solutions. His engineering background includes the development of advanced ventilation systems for commercial facilities, critical infrastructure, and high-demand applications such as data centers, where energy efficiency, thermal stability, and system reliability are essential. His expertise in Energy Recovery Ventilation technologies and airflow optimization became an important part of ER Flow’s engineering foundation.
The second co-founder, Mykhailo Makhlevych, is an electro-mechanical engineer specializing in ECM fan technologies, intelligent HVAC control systems, and Fan Array retrofit solutions. His multidisciplinary approach combines mechanical engineering, thermodynamics, airflow physics, electrical systems, and advanced controls engineering. This unique combination allows him to approach HVAC systems not only as mechanical equipment, but as fully integrated energy and airflow management systems designed for maximum operational efficiency, reliability, and lifecycle performance.
Instead of abandoning their individual businesses, the founders became strategic partners, supplying key components and engineering expertise to one another while continuously improving the quality and performance of their solutions. This collaboration ultimately led to the creation of ER Flow.
Today, ER Flow serves as a bridge between European engineering innovation and the North American HVAC market.
